“Ref. 2499”

“An exceptionally rare model – manufactured only for a brief period between the years of 1950 and 1985 – Ref. 2499 is widely considered to be one of the most remarkable wristwatches ever designed by Patek Philippe. With only 349 units produced in history – an average of nine pieces per year – Ref. 2499 exhibits both singularity and exceptional craftsmanship. A successor to Ref. 1518 and presaging Ref. 3970, the model holds an eminent position among the firm’s perpetual calendar chronograph wristwatches.”

Watches often serve as totems to times past. To achievements, memories of people and places, and any number of other significant pieces of a person’s life. The hope is perhaps that these tiny mechanical marvels - still beating with aplomb despite having lacked strict necessity decades ago - might bear witness to life in a way that those subsequent to us might remember us through them, and in some small way or another, allow us to defy our own mortality through memory, if only for a moment.
